Minority Nurse Faculty Scholarship: 2009-2010 Application Available Now
AACN and the Johnson & Johnson Campaign for Nursing’s Future have launched a new national scholarship program designed to increase the number of nurse faculty from ethnic minority backgrounds.

AACN Partners with AfterCollege to Establish a New Scholarship Program
The AfterCollege-AACN Scholarship Fund supports students who are seeking a baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degree in nursing. Special consideration will be given to students in a graduate program with the goal of becoming a nurse educator; completing an RN to BSN or MSN program; and those enrolled in an accelerated nursing program.

California Endowment-AACN Nurse Faculty Scholarship
Designed to increase the number of minority faculty teaching in California Nursing schools, this new program supports nursing students pursuing graduate degrees who are committed to teaching after graduation.

American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) awards $1,500 per academic year to students who complete baccalaureate or graduate degree programs in nursing. April 1 is the deadline to apply for these Educational Advancement Scholarships.

American Indian Graduate Center (AIGC) announces the availability of graduate fellowships for American Indian and Alaska Native students from federally recognized U.S. tribes.

American Assembly for Men in Nursing Foundation and Johnson & Johnson’s Campaign for Nursing’s Future are offering a new $1,000 scholarship program for male students pursuing professional nursing education programs.

Betty Irene Moore Predoctoral Fellowships of $60,000 per fellow per year are available to prepare nursing faculty for positions in colleges and universities in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area.

Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity (BAGNC) provides two years of doctoral ($100,000 award) or postdoctoral ($120,000 award) support to registered nurses pursuing a career in academic geriatric nursing.

National Health Service Corps, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has information about scholarships and loan repayment programs for health care professionals who practice in a medically underserved area.

Nurse Loan Repayment and Scholarship Program (NELRP) offers registered nurses substantial assistance to repay educational loans in exchange for service in critical shortage facilities. This program is administered by the the Division of Nursing at HRSA.

Nurse Practitioner Health Association offers a variety of scholarships ($1,000 to $5,000 awards) to students in Nurse Practitioner programs for outstanding research, leadership and academic achievements.

Nurses' Educational Funds, Inc. offers a scholarship for nurses enrolled in an accredited master's or doctoral level nursing program.

Promise of Nursing Regional Faculty Fellowship awards $1,000 to $7,500 to students committed to the nurse educator role. This scholarship is offered through The Foundation of the National Student Nurses' Association.

The Oncology Nursing Society Foundation awards academic scholarships specifically for students pursuing a master's or doctoral degree or a post-master's certificate.

Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago is currently accepting applications for a $2,500 Advance Practice Nursing Scholarship for those specializing in acute and/or critical care that are residents of Illinois. Applications are due September 1, 2008.

Active Duty Nurse Corps Educational Benefits provides full scholarships for students intereseted in becoming a Nurse Anesthetist as well as the Health Professions Loan Repayment Program in Exchange for active duty service in the U.S. Army.

Futures in Nursing is a national financial aid agency with a focus on Pennsylvania.

International Education Financial Aid (IEFA) scholarship search is a resource for financial aid, college scholarship and grant information for international students wishing to study abroad.

Johnson & Johnson's Discover Nursing Web site has an extensive nursing scholarships search feature.

Kaiser Permanente C2C program provides scholarships to Hispanic students who are juniors or seniors in college pursuing a bachelors degree in nursing.

MinorityNurse.com maintains a listing of scholarship and fellowship money for students pursuing undergraduate or graduate work in nursing.

America Red Cross Jane Delano Society will award two $1,000 scholarships in May to undergraduate nursing students who have contributed volunteer service to Red Cross units.

SallieMae grants loans and provides information about applying for and managing student loans.

Scholarship Experts is a free and trusted scholarship resource that allows students to search for updated and accurate scholarship information.

Sigma Theta Tau International maintains a list of nursing scholarships available through organizations and specific nursing schools.

The Student Guide is the most comprehensive resource on student financial aid from the U.S. Department of Education. Grants, loans, and work-study are the three major forms of financial aid available through the federal Student Financial Assistance Programs. Updated each year, The Student Guide tells you about the programs and how to apply for them.

U.S. Department of Education is a potential source of financial aid.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services provides information on nursing student loans.

Vanderbilt School of Nursing maintains an extensive list of scholarships and loan repayment resources, including a number of scholarships offered by specialty organizations and associations.

Loan Repayment or Forgiveness Programs

State-Sponsored Loan Forgiveness Programs

The Kaiser Permanente Student Financial Aid Program awards need-based nursing scholarships and merit-based forgivable loans to students in California. Loans are available in a variety of nursing and professional/technical specialties, and may be forgiven through qualifying employment with Kaiser Permanente.

Tenet Healthcare System has introduced a student loan repayment program at participating hospitals. A state-by-state list of eligible facilities is available on their website.
