NAGPRA
Grants
NAGPRA Grants are awarded to Indian tribes, Alaska Native villages
and corporations, Native Hawaiian organizations, and museums for financial assistance in carrying out projects associated with NAGPRA compliance.
A new online NAGPRA Grants to Tribes and Museums (PDF) brochure highlights examples of successful NAGPRA grants projects and provides information on other sources of cultural resources funding.
As part of our Grants Outreach Project, we are featuring some grant proposals and final projects online. We also have a bibliography of sample deliverables.
The National
NAGPRA program administers two types of awards, each with a different
application process. Use the same proposal form for either type
of grant.
Consultation/Documentation
grants are awarded competitively once per fiscal year. Collaborative
documentation and consultation proposals are especially encouraged.
Repatriation
grants are awarded on a continuing basis throughout each fiscal
year. Proposals are accepted October 1 through June 30. Repatriation grant proposals require documentation of transfer of control. See template for submitting transfer documentation.
