The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A strong earthquake occurred 130 km (80 miles) NE of TOKYO, Japan at 5:44 AM MDT, Oct 19, 2005 (8:44 PM local time in Japan).

The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available.

Felt (VI) at Kashiwa; (V) at Chiba and Yokohama; (IV) at Funabashi, Ishikawa, Machida, Narita and Tokyo; (III) at Misawa, Sendai and Tachikawa. Recorded (5L JMA) in Ibaraki; (4 JMA) in Chiba, Fukushima and Tochigi; (3 JMA) in Gumma, Kanagawa, Miyagi, Niigata, Saitama, Tokyo, Yamagata and Yamanashi; (2 JMA) in Akita, Iwate, Nagano and Shizuoka; (1 JMA) in Aichi, Aomori and Gifu Prefectures. Recorded (1 JMA) on Hachijo-jima, Miyake-jima, Nii-jima and O-shima. Also recorded (1 JMA) in the Kushiro, Obihiro and Shizunai areas, Hokkaido.
