Programming
Oak Creek Youth Correctional Facility is an all-female facility. The re-opening of Oak Creek provides OYA and the juvenile justice system an opportunity to engage in services specific to our young women in Oregon.  There are some key elements that have been identified in working with a gender-specific population that the Oregon Youth Authority, working with national experts, has utilized in the development of treatment curriculum and service delivery.

Gender Specific Programming
  • Creating the facility culture from day one
  • Evidence-based treatment curriculum
    • Dialectical Behavior Treatment (DBT),  a research-supported treatment which combines cognitive behavioral therapy and methods with Eastern meditative principles and practices.
  • Service delivery/best practices, approaches that are specifically responsive to females, physically/emotionally safe environment, environment that values young women, health and fitness needs.
  • Opportunities for living unit cross over/campus involvement
  • Minority/cultural considerations, responsivity opportunities
  • Volunteer Services, mentor program, animal visit program.
  • Partnership with Corvallis House; vision, roles, coordination of services, communication and transition best practices

Visitation
OYA recognizes the importance of interaction between offenders in its custody with family and members of the community.  Such access allows offenders to maintain contact with their families and community, and contributes to effective planning for an offender´s treatment needs.
  • General Sunday visitation schedules established for each living unit.
  • General Wednesday evenings visitation from 6pm to 8pm to try to meet the needs of the families who work on the weekends
  • Special visits, outside of regular visitation schedules, may be arranged through the Treatment Manager or designee if the parents/guardians are unavailable to visit on Sundays.
  • Visitation is supervised by OYA staff.
  • OYA staff will inform visitors of applicable rules, policies, and procedures relating to visitation prior to entry into the facility.
  • Staff will consider all requests for visitation and allow or deny the visit on the basis of what would best benefit the offender, within the interests of facility security and order.
  • Visitation is limited to those persons who are integral to the offender´s case plan (e.g., family members, offender´s attorney, and persons involved in the offender´s treatment).
