Spotter Training and Other Information

Severe Weather Spotters are a vital link in the timely and accurate flow of weather information into and out of weather forecast offices.  On this page, you can find training presentations and downloadable training guides.  Additionally, if you need to change your spotter address or phone number, or just have a SKYWARN/spotting question, drop us a line at DMX.Spotter@noaa.gov  and we'll take care of your request as soon as possible. Note:  This email address is not for sending severe weather reports, but instead is for administrative tasks.  For severe weather reporting via the internet, please see the eSpotter link to the left.

2008 Spotter Training

Spotter training has been completed for 2008.  We thank all of the trainees for taking time out of busy schedules and for providing storm reports.  This season, we trained just over 2000 spotters.  We'll be out to see you again in early 2009.

Each year, NWS meteorologists travel to nearly all of the 51 counties we serve to provide a full spectrum of introductory to advanced spotter training information in a single multi-media presentation lasting around two hours. These training sessions are generally hosted by the Emergency Manager of each county.

However Emergency Managers wishing to schedule non-routine training can contact our Warning Coordination Meteorologist Jeff Johnson at Jeff.Johnson@noaa.gov.
