Decline Thin timber stand

Decline Thin Project

An Environmental Assessment (EA) that discusses the proposed Decline Thin Project on the Darrington Ranger District, Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest was available August 29, 2007.

On October 29, 2007, Forest Supervisor, Y. Rob Iwamoto made a decision to select modified Alternative D for the Decline Thin Project, including all listed mitigation measures, management practices, requirements, and monitoring. The selected alternative will maintain and promote stand vigor and diversity while providing timber volume from lands identified as suitable for timber management.

Implementation of modified Alternative D will provide forest thinning treatments on approximately 380 acres, generating an estimated 7.2 MMBF of commercial timber in the matrix land allocations, and the potential for additional volume in the 40-year-old stands. This decision will also upgrade 16.4 miles of existing forest road, of which 2.3 miles would be put in storage following the thinning activities, replace a culvert with a bridge at the Conn Creek crossing on Road 2430, and decommission 2.5 miles of upper Road 2430.
