The Veterans Integrated Services Network (The Great Lakes Health Care System), VISN 12, with its seven medical centers, thirty outpatient clinics, 5 nursing homes, and 2 domiciliaries, provides health care services to the 1.1 million veterans who reside within its 4-state (Illinois, Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Wisconsin, and Northwest Indiana) area. Additionally, VISN 12 supports 7 Readjustment Counseling Centers. More than 11,500 individuals work within VISN 12. They care for nearly 200,000 veterans that account for over 35,000 admissions and 2.1 million outpatient visits per year. Facilities in VISN 12 operate 973 medical, surgical, and psychiatric hospital beds, as well as 567 nursing homes and 542 domiciliary beds. Varying in size and complexity, VISN 12 facilities play a fundamental role in training thousands of physicians and allied health care personnel each year.
