Veterans Integrated Service Network 3 serves the wide diversity of needs for the greater New York and New Jersey veteran population. The Network provides care in some of the most urban settings in the nation as well as in sprawling suburban and rural areas. A full range of services is provided with each medical center emphasizing primary care complimented by specialized care. Additional services are provided in 30 community based outpatient clinics. VA's network of facilities includes; VA Medical Centers, numerous outpatient clinics, nursing homes and homeless domiciliaries. The medical centers/systems include: Bronx, Northport (Long Island), VA NY Harbor Healthcare System, which includes Brooklyn, St. Albans, New York (Manhattan), VA Hudson Valley Healthcare System, comprised of Castle Point and Montrose and VA New Jersey Healthcare System comprised of East Orange and Lyons. The NY/NJ Network cares for over 185,000 veterans each year, employs over 10,000 staff and has an annual operating budget of nearly one billion dollars.
Within the Network all major specialties are available including spinal cord injury care, a full range of mental health services including post traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse treatment, homeless services and domicilliaries. Acute tertiary care services including a full range of surgical care is also available in many of the Network medical centers.
Network 3 medical centers are highly affiliated with the region's most prestigious medical schools. Research and training are an instrumental part of the clinical environment of each medical center.
