Contributing Charcoal Sediment Data

The International Multiproxy Paleofire Database (IMPD) at the World Data Center for Paleoclimatology archives raw measurements of charcoal sediment data.

Data may be submitted in any convenient format. ASCII text files (fixed-format, tab-delimited, comma-delimited, or space-delimited) are preferred for tabular data. Tilia files and spreadsheets in Excel 95 or newer will be accepted, but older versions and other proprietary formats may be returned for reformatting in ASCII. Charcoal concentration data files should include the depth, age, sample volume, and variable measurement. They should be accompanied by the appropriate radiocarbon and chronology data. We also encourage that the appropriate magnetic susceptibility data, loss on ignition data, and lithologic data be submitted as well.

We ask that you include some information (metadata) about the collection and analysis of the data. We have a data submission form that indicates the information we would like you to include. The form can be filled out online and sent along with the data files all in one step. We can also accommodate bulk submissions of large contributions. Please contact our database manager, Michael Hartman, for more information.

For best results, use Netscape version 4.5 or newer and Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 or newer (older versions may work, but certain features such as word wrap and the browse button may not). All newer versions of Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer are available as free downloads at those sites.
