Volunteer Information

Are you interested in helping Albuquerque's homeless animals? Animal Services Division's volunteer program has a variety of options for anyone wanting to help homeless, stray, or abused animals either directly or indirectly. You can make a difference!

We are currently looking for enthusiastic volunteers for:

How to Become a Volunteer

  • Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Those under the age of 18 must have signed parental consent.
  • Volunteers must attend a City volunteer orientation presentation.
  • Certain volunteer positions require additional training.
  • Please contact the Animal Care Center at (505) 764-1135 to register or for more information.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Eastside Lobby Greeter - Meet the public in our lobby and answer questions as necessary. The public needs directions to the kennels and information about adoptions.
  • Special Events - Animal Services sponsors regularly scheduled special community and in-house events at which we need volunteer help.
  • Kennel/Cattery Assistants - We need volunteers to make sure the animals are clean and comfortable, and to help potential adopters interact with animals in which they are interested.

Lucky Paws Volunteers

The City of Albuquerque Lucky Paws Adoption Center is seeking highly enthusiastic people to serve as Volunteer Pals at our new adoption center in Coronado Center.

Volunteers must be able to make a weekly time commitment and be at least 16 years old.

Volunteer Duties include:

  • Assist potential adopters through counseling and facilitate customer and animal interactions
  • Assist with pet merchandising sales
  • Care for animals housed at Lucky Paws
  • Answer questions about City animal ordinances and regulations
  • Assist staff and public with excellent customer service
  • And much more!
