The suspect was arrested on allegations related to the felony hit and run death of a 40-year old north Portland woman as she attempted to cross Highway 99E south of Boardman Avenue in her wheelchair Wednesday morning is identified as RAFAEL AVELINO GINES, age 51, from Milwaukie. The suspect was located after Oregon State Police received a call from his pastor so he could arrange to turn himself in.
AVELINO GINES was being lodged in the Clackamas County Jail on one count of Felony Hit & Run, a Class B felony.
The 1995 Ford Econoline van believed to be driven this morning at the time of the crash was located at the suspect's apartment complex parking lot in the 4500 block of SE Roethe Road. It was seized late this afternoon and has been taken to the Oregon State Police Portland Metro Forensic Lab for further processing.
Questions regarding upcoming court appearance should be directed Thursday to the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office.
The investigation is continuing and no more information will be released at this time without approval from the District Attorney's Office.
