A Springfield woman and a Pleasant Hill woman were killed and Pleasant Hill man injured in a two car head-on collision Sunday afternoon on Jasper Road about three miles east of Springfield.

On September 23, 2007 at about 4:40 p.m. Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the Springfield Area Command office responded to a two vehicle head-on traffic collision on Jasper Road about three miles east of Springfield.  The preliminary investigation indicates a 2003 Chevrolet pickup driven by NATALIE ANN PETERSON, age 19, from Springfield, was traveling eastbound on Jasper Road near milepost 3. For an unknown reason, her pickup left the roadway and drifted onto the right shoulder. PETERSON over-corrected, veered to the left and crossed the centerline into the westbound lane.

A westbound 1987 Mercedes sedan driven by DONALD LAIRD, age 60, from Pleasant Hill, collided head-on with the pickup in the westbound lane.

The Mercedes passenger, DONNA LAIRD, age 55, from Pleasant Hill, and NATALIE PETERSON were pronounced deceased at the scene. They were using safety restraints.

DONALD LAIRD was transported by ground ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital and was reported to be in stable condition. He was also using safety restraints.

Traffic was reduce to one lane for about four hours. At this point alcohol, does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

OSP troopers are continuing the investigation.  Assistance at the scene provided by Lane County Sheriff's Department and the Lane Rural Fire Department.
