Oregon State Police, working in conjunction with the Gilliam County Medical Examiner, is attempting to positively identify a body discovered Thursday evening in the Columbia River near the mouth of the John Day River.
On July 26, 2007 at approximately 8:19 p.m. a fisherman reported a possible body near the shore on the mainstream of the Columbia River. An Oregon State Police trooper responded to the area and located the body with the help of the reporting fisherman. The body of the unidentified adult male was recovered with the assistance of Sherman County and Gilliam County sheriff's office personnel. The body appears to have been in the water for an extended period of time.
