Oregon State Police SWAT team members placed second in the Oregon Tactical Officers Association competition held in central Oregon. Seven SWAT teams from federal, state and local agencies competed in the annual three-day event involving physical competition, problem solving and tactical scenarios, and range firing competition.

Six SWAT members from Springfield, Salem and Oregon State University work sites represented the Oregon State Police team during the competition held at sites in Bend and Redmond. This year's event was hosted by Bend Police Department.

The Oregon State Police SWAT team was formed in 1988 and is comprised of 24 tactical members and 8 trained crisis negotiators who work at various offices around the state. According to Lieutenant Dave Mazour, SWAT team commander, the team responds to requests from law enforcement agencies needing a high risk response in Oregon. The team averages 40 – 50 calls per year ranging from high risk search warrants, armed barricaded subjects, hostage situations, and dignitary protection details.

In addition to the Oregon State Police SWAT Team, this year's competition involved teams from Oregon Department of Corrections, Sheridan Federal Correctional Institution, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Washington County Sheriff's Office, Medford Police Department, and Jackson County Sheriff's Office. First place in the competition went to Medford Police Department.
