An Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper arrested two California residents, a 20-year old male and 17-year old juvenile male, Monday evening on marijuana-related charges during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 near Rice Hill in northern Douglas County. Approximately 2.2 pounds of marijuana and over $2,000 cash were seized related to the incident.

On April 2, 2007 at approximately 7:00 p.m. OSP Trooper Brian Assmus was parked on the northbound shoulder of Interstate 5 near milepost 145 when he observed a 1994 Ford Escort traveling fast in the left lane. Trooper Assmus obtained a speed reading of 86 mph and stopped the car near milepost 148.

Upon contact with the two occupants, driver, SEAN RICHARD HOLBROOK, age 20, from Redway, California, and a 17-year old juvenile male passenger from Zenia, California, the trooper noted an odor of marijuana. Further inquiry led to HOLBROOK opening the glove box and handed the trooper a pipe and small amount of marijuana. HOLBROOK admitted there was more marijuana in the trunk area. He opened the trunk and while moving personal items around the trooper saw more than an ounce of marijuana.

Another OSP trooper responded to the scene to back up Trooper Assmus. HOLBROOK was taken into custody and the juvenile detained. Further search of the car led to the discovery of approximately 2.2 pounds of marijuana in a duffle bag and other evidence including over $2,000 cash.

HOLBROOK was lodged in the Douglas County Jail for Unlawful Manufacturing, Possession and Delivery of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana, and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.

The 17-year old juvenile was transported to the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center where he is being detained for Unlawful Manufacturing, Possession and Delivery of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana. The juvenile male's name is withheld at this time.
