The new Intoxilyzer 8000 Breath Testing equipment is being installed this week at multiple locations in Umatilla and Morrow County locations. The new equipment is replacing the Intoxilyzer 5000 models that have been in use for over twelve years. Installation in other areas of the State is continuing to be phased in over the coming months.

Oregon State Police Forensic Services Division is installing nearly 130 Intoxilyzer 8000 Breath Testing equipment units, adding new equipment at 25 new locations in the State. The additional units will help make the breath testing equipment more readily available in many areas.

Effective February 15, 2007, the Forensic Services Division is replacing all Intoxilyzer 5000 instrumentation in Morrow County with new Intoxilyzer 8000 equipment. The next day, all Intoxilyzer 5000 instrumentation in Umatilla County will be replaced with new Intoxilyzer 8000 equipment.

Specifically, the following Intoxilyzer location will be affected:

  • Boardman Police Department
  • Morrow County Jail
  • Hermiston Police Department
  • Milton-Freewater Police Department
  • Pendleton Police Department
  • Pilot Rock Police Department
  • Umatilla County Jail
  • Umatilla Police Department
  • Umatilla Tribal Police Department

Training for around 3,500 police officers around the State is being provided for certification to use the Intoxilyzer Model 8000 breath-testing instrument. Permits to operate Intoxilyzer 8000 instrumentation have already been mailed to all effected agencies and should already be distributed to officers having successfully completed the conversion training course.
