The new Intoxilyzer 8000 Breath Testing equipment is being installed this week at multiple locations in Coos and Curry County locations. The new equipment is replacing the Intoxilyzer 5000 models that have been in use for over twelve years. Intallation in other areas of the State is continuing to be phased in over the coming months.
Oregon State Police Forensic Services Division is installing nearly 130 Intoxilyzer 8000 Breath Testing equipment units, adding new equipment at 25 new locations in the State. The additional units will help make the breath testing equipment more readily available in many areas.
Effective January 3 and 4, 2007, the Forensic Services Division is replacing all Intoxilyzer 5000 instrumentation in Coos and Curry counties with new Intoxilyzer 8000 equipment at the following locations:
Bandon Police Department
Coos Bay Police Department
Coos County Jail
North Bend Police Department
Brookings Police Department
Curry County Jail
Training for around 3,500 police officers around the State is being provided for certification to use the Intoxilyzer Model 8000 breath-testing instrument. Permits to operate Intoxilyzer 8000 instrumentation have already been mailed to all affected agencies and should already be distributed to officers having successfully completed the conversion training course.
