Forerunners of the Oregon State Police were members of the State Traffic Department, some of whom are pictured above. There were about fifty men assigned throughout the state. |

The uniform of the thirties is shown above. By the mid-forties, the campaign hat made a brief appearance. |
The "Smokey" hat made a comeback, replacing the garrison cap, in 1972 and remains standard issue today. |
Badges
These were the badges worn by state traffic officers and "prohi-agents" before their organizations were disbanded and the badges replaced by the five-pointed star of the State Police.
