Mission:

Established in 1992, OPIC facilitates the collaboration of public and private partners to protect Oregon's children against vaccine-preventable diseases.

Purpose:

To facilitate and support immunization activities by providing statewide leadership and support to public/private partners working to optimize childhood and adolescent immunization resources.

The Common Goal for OPIC Members

To protect children, adolescents and the community-at-large against diseases that once killed, sickened or disabled thousands of children and adults in the United States every year before vaccines became widely available.

Influenza Rubella
Measles Tetanus (Lockjaw)

Guidelines: 

OPIC operates according to By-Laws. In addition, the coalition uses a strategic planning process and annual workplans to achieve strategic communication, networking and public policy goals. OPIC's strategic plans link the coalition's strategic directions to those of the Department of Human Services, Public Health Division, Immunization Program.

OPIC promotes the use of:
  • Science-based immunization information
  • Immunization ALERT, Oregon's award-winning childhood immunization registry
  • The Vaccines for Children Program
  • AFIX, a quality assurance process for providers

Leadership:

An experienced Executive Committee provides overall leadership for the statewide coalition.

    • learn more about current and emerging childhood immunization issues concerning immunizations, vaccine-preventable diseases and related topics

    • discuss childhood immunization issues from an international perspective, utilizing national, state and local experts and resources




Membership:

OPIC's membership consists of public and private individuals/agencies/organizations/associations which support childhood immunizations. OPIC members include:
  • Child-focused organizations
  • DHS, Health Services, Office of Family Health, Immunization Program
  • Oregon Immunization ALERT
  • Vaccines for Children Program
  • WIC
  • Primary care providers (public and private)
  • Immunization programs in urban and rural local health depts.
  • Oregon SafeNet - 1-800-SafeNet
  • Division of Medical Assistance Programs (DMAP)
  • Education Service Districts
  • School Districts
  • Head Start
  • Professional, community service and faith-based organizations
  • Health Systems, including hospitals
  • Health education institutions

Collaborative Leadership Partners:

Collaborative Leadership Partners included but are not limited to the Oregon Adult Immunization Coalition (OAIC), Immunization Programs for County Health Departments, Legacy Health System, the Oregon Office of Multicultural Health, Asian Health and Service Center, DMAP, Kaiser Permanente, Healthy Birth Initiative, Oregon SafeNet, the Northwest Health Foundation, the African American Health Coalition, Salud, the Latino Health Coalition, the Institute for Health Professionals at Portland Community College and the Tuality Health Alliance.

OPIC Activities and Projects:

OPIC targets services and resources based on data, research and best practices.

Committees:

Regional Partnerships

OPIC partners with the Immunization Coalition of Washington (IACW) on designated projects.

OPIC also provides education at four general or roundtable meetings each year.

  • Meetings feature presentations on vaccine-preventable diseases, vaccine safety, new vaccines, school law, health disparities, and policy/legislative issues.
