Payment Error Rate Measurement (PERM)

Claims Submission

PERM requires States to submit fee-for-service claims and managed care data to CMS for identification of erroneous payments. The FY 2006 PERM cycle only covers reviews of Medicaid fee-for-service claims, but from FY 2007 on, the PERM cycles also include reviews of fee-for-service claims and managed care data for both Medicaid and SCHIP. Medicaid and SCHIP claims data is initially sent by the States to the PERM statistical contractor so that the contractor can draw a sample from each quarter.

This page includes general information on the process that States follow in submitting claims information for PERM. Additional information on submitting claims data can be found in the PERM Cycle Documents list on the left menu.
