GOV. RITTER NAMES CELESTE C de BACA TO PAROLE BOARD

Gov. Bill Ritter today named Celeste M. C de Baca of Denver to fill a vacancy on the State Board of Parole. She will fill the balance of Matthew Rhodes' three-year term. Rhodes, of Pueblo West, has resigned, and C de Baca¿s appointment runs through July 1, 2008.

C de Baca, 50, served as a Denver County Court judge from August 1990 until June 2000. From 2000 to 2003 she was a human resources manager for Coors Distributing Co. She also has taught criminal justice law at Metropolitan State College, and since 2004 has served as an administrative hearing officer for the Parole Board.

"As a former judge, Celeste's great integrity and her knowledge of the criminal justice system bring a level of skill and expertise to the Parole Board that will serve the people of Colorado well," Gov. Ritter said. "She has experience balancing the rights of victims with the rights of defendants, and she is fair in the administration of justice."

C de Baca earned her bachelor¿s degree from Regis University in 1980 and her law degree from the University of Denver in 1983.

C de Baca's nomination to the seven-member Parole Board requires Senate confirmation.
