Basic Police
Optional Training
In addition to the required 640 hour Basic Police Course, DPSST offers voluntary classes after hours for officers/deputies attending the academy.  This allows us to provide additional training for the students to sharpen skills that they learn while at DPSST.  Listed below are the topics that we offer and the number of associated hours:

  • Incident Command System 100, 200, 700, 800 Training: 12 Hours (web- based training, .3 CEU's per class)
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness Training: 8 Hours (web-based training, non-credit class)
  • Radar: 8 Hours
  • Lidar: 4 Hours
  • Medic First Aid: 8 Hours

These classes are voluntary and are not required for certification.  F-6 forms are provided at the training so students may receive topical credit, but otherwise student attendance is not taken.  Since there may be contractual and overtime issues for your agency, we request that you fill out the attached form so that we know you are fully aware of your officer/deputy’s workload during their time at DPSST.  DPSST will not allow students to participate in optional training without a signed copy of the Optional Training Release Form.
