Statewide Training FAQs
What are the costs of classes?

Class costs vary, depending on the course. Class costs for all classes are shown on the class website. For budget purposes, you can view our price listings of our standard classes from the home page for the Department of Administrative Services.

What type of classes do you offer?

We offer several different Management level, Professional Development, Technical and general End-User classes.  Many classes are offered on a rotating basis, so if you don’t see what you are looking for offered on our website, it may be coming in the future.

We also can customize classes for specific agency needs.  If you have questions regarding course offerings, please contact either Kathryn Duncan (503) 378-3040 or Rhea Rodriguez (503) 378-5393.

Can people attend classes if they are not a state or local government employee?

A few of our classes are "Open to the Public"  (our web site indicates which classes are open to the public).  If there is a class you would like to attend that is not open to you (because you are a member of the public, or because the course is for a specific state agency), please contact either Kathryn Duncan or Rhea Rodriguez.

Are classes repeated?

Many classes are offered on a regular basis.  If you are interested in a specific class, but do not see it offered, please contact state training staff.

Are classes offered in the evenings?

No.  Our classes are conducted during normal office hours (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.)

As a state employee, am I required to take classes through state training or can I take classes through a local training vendor?

You are not required to use state training as a training provider.  We have a reputation of providing high quality training.  We do this by providing classes through training vendors who are experts in their fields.  We broker our classes to a large group of employees and our prices are usually lower then market price.

My office is not in Salem. Do you offer training in other locations of the state?

State training is a statewide program and offers training in all areas of the state.  Please check our webpage class listing.  If you don’t see the needed training listed, please contact either Kathryn Duncan or Rhea Rodriguez  to discuss training requests for areas other than Salem.

Do I need to pay for classes upfront, or will I be billed?

You may pay for classes by credit card by contacting the Class Coordinator prior to the class date, otherwise you will be sent an invoice after the class.  Payments are considered "past due" if received later than 30 days after you receive the invoice.

What happens if I need to cancel a class or I’m sick on the day of class?

State training requires 15 days notice for cancellation to avoid penalty. If you cancel less than 15 days prior to the class (or don't show up to the class), you will still be required to pay the registration fee.  If you are unable to attend, you can send a substitute.  If you were unable to attend class due to an illness, please contact the Class Coordinator.

Who are the Class Coordinators?
