The WINNER for June occurred in a deep easterly flow regime as a powerful storm erupted on the afternoon of the 19th in eastern Claiborne county. This storm peaked with a VIL of 60 kg/m*m with 67dBz maximum reflectivity returns. The storm knocked numerous large tree limbs down about 6 miles northeast of Port Gibson as it tracked almost due west. One of the consistent signals for severe thunderstorms such as this one is the development of 65dBz returns above the freezing level which in this case was at 14,100 feet. Note the height of the 65dBz returns in the Cross Section image extended to almost 21,000 feet.
