Oregon state government offers a variety of internship programs both paid and unpaid primarily for college and university students, however, opportunities do exist for high school students.  For additional information on the internship programs offered through various state agencies visit the web sites below.

internOregon

This is a statewide internship program that serves all of state agencies. Internships are project based. The basis of InternOregon is the former “Promise” program, which focused on attracting minority students to state employment from Oregon’s six major universities. While diversity is still a high priority, Department of Administrative Services has opened the program to any student at any institution of higher education. Internships are offered year round.

Legislative Intern Program

Interns assist legislative offices with their legislative activities and work functions. This program is designed to provide Oregon college and university students an opportunity to work and learn in a hands on legislative environment, learning leadership and administrative responsibilities as well as developing legislative process skills and experiences.

Office of the Governor

Interns serve with policy advisors and other staff members who are experts in the fields of Public Policy that affect the Office of the Governor and the State of Oregon. The office works with state, local, and federal governmental entities, as well as private and non-profit sector stakeholders to address an array of issues involving state government and the people of Oregon. The office serves to advise the Governor on the range of public policy issues and to work with the array of stakeholders to form partnerships in addressing these issues. This program is designed to provide young people with the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge in state government.

Oregon Department of Education

Interns may experience various functions, programs and divisions within the agency. The internships are designed to give students real work experience and the opportunity to observe and engage in a variety of roles within state government.

Oregon Department of Energy

Various opportunities are available year round for students to work on projects or conduct research on topics such as climate change, conservation services, energy efficiency, and renewable energy.

Oregon Department of Forestry

Interns assist foresters in areas such as forest management, fire protection, forest engineering, forest inventory and monitoring, recreation management, forest interpretation, and forest education.

Resource Policy Internship (pdf)

Interns may experience various marketing, promotions and sponsorship functions, organizing and coordinating special events and fair programs and assist department managers within the agency.  The internships are designed to provide students an experience within state government, marketing and special events while furthering important efforts with the Oregon State Fair.
