Testing and Registration

If Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is a new concept for you, please read the Introduction to Electronic Business Practices page first.

Reminder: DHS will end new registration and testing in the current system on June 30, 2008. Any registrations received for new Trading Partners on and after July 1, 2008, will not be processed until September 2008, when the replacement MMIS is fully operational.

EDI Frequently Asked Questions

You can search all frequently asked questions for EDI at this address: http://egov.oregon.gov/DHS/search.shtml/hipaa_faq.shtml. If you still have questions about EDI testing and registration, contact EDI Support Services at dhs.edisupport@state.or.us or 888-690-9888.

EDI Packet (Trading Partner Agreement and related forms)

You will need to download, complete, and return this packet in order to begin the testing process required for conducting business electronically with DHS. All forms in the packet can be completed on your computer. If you have Microsoft Word, you can save a copy of the completed form(s) to your computer. Make sure to complete the forms on your computer before printing them.

To test before the replacement MMIS goes live, new trading partners must submit this packet by June 30, 2008. Current trading partners can submit changes to their TPA up until 3 weeks before the replacement MMIS goes live.

EDI Registration Packet (Word) (PDF) (Effective 6/2008) - Includes all three forms you need to complete to register as a DHS Trading Partner. If you need only a specific form in the packet, use the following links to quickly download only those pages:

  • Trading Partner Agreement (Word) (PDF): DHS will require all trading partners to sign a trading partner agreement in order to do business electronically with the department and prior to testing.
  • Application for Authorization (Word) (PDF): This form gives DHS information on who will be submitting your electronic transactions. It needs to be signed and returned prior to testing.
  • EDI Registration Form (Word) (PDF): This is the form needed by DHS from you or your electronic submitters to register a transaction for testing.
  • TPA Change Form (Word) (PDF): Trading Partners and electronic submitters are required to submit this form within 10 business days when material information has changed.

EDI Administrative Rules (PDF) -- These administrative rules establish the DHS registration process and requirements applicable to individuals or entities that desire to be treated as Trading Partners or EDI Submitters with DHS. They also govern the conduct and requirements of all EDI Transactions with DHS. You can eSubscribe to receive e-mail updates whenever these rules change.

Business-to-Business Testing

Once DHS receives a completed Trading Partner Agreement, DHS will e-mail you an instruction packet for Business-to-Business testing. Current trading partners and their submitters will test in July and August; new trading partners will need to wait until September to test.

A member of DHS EDI Support Services will call each submitter listed on your TPA and provide them with specific logins and passwords. Additional questions may be addressed at that time to DHS EDI Support Services.

Password Change Utility

You must update your mailbox password every 60 days with the Password Change Utility. You will not receive any reminders to update your password.
