Objective:
Improve wheat germplasm for resistance to wheat and barley stripe rust and establish disease observation nurseries to monitor emerging biotypes of the stripe rust pathogen.

Approach:
Coordinate nursery screening and germplasm identification for wheat and barley stripe rust resistance with existing ARS and public sector wheat and barley scientists through the Wheat and Barley Stripe Rust Working Group; monitor emerging biotypes of the stripe rust pathogen and seasonal migtation pathogen through observation nurseries; identify and incorporate diverse sources of genetic resistance to wheat and barley stripe rust.
