The mission of our unit is to enhance understanding of tree responses to interacting biotic and abiotic stressors and their relationship to forest health, and to assist in developing management practices to sustain and improve the health and productivity of northeastern forests.

Our research is focused in three problems areas:  evaluating differential stress effects on trees of  different sizes and ages; determining which key biotic and abiotic factors interact to affect tree health; and providing land managers with guidance about species nutritional requirements, potential site limitations, and how to best select appropriate species/site combinations.  A staff of five scientists and four science support professionals work on these research problems along with partners and collaborators.
