Technical Abstract: This article covers various aspects of disease and pest management as they relate specifically to medicinal plants. Typical disease symptoms for fungi, bacteria, viruses, and nematodes are described as well as illustrated on specific medicinal crops. Various research tools recently made accessible via the internet are introduced for aid in site selection and disease diagnosis. Greenhouse sanitation issues along with disease and pest management are included and suggestions for control are given. The importance of Good Agricultural Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices, as they relate to pathogens, pests, and product quality is also introduced.
