Cooperative Observer Program
About This Page
Cooperative observers are very much a part of the National Weather Service...collecting much needed weather data. To read more about the observers, look below.
25 Yr Service Award

Mrs. Geneva Gates of Botkinburg, Arkansas has been a cooperative observer for the National Weather Service for 25 years (as of January, 2000).  She has collected rainfall data on a daily basis.  Her measurements are sent to the National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, North Carolina and eventually published to become a part of the permanent record of the world's weather.

The rainfall data collected by Mrs. Gates is primarily used to support climatology and forecast verification in the Botkinburg area and is also used to support river forecasting, agricultural, construction and recreational interests of the area.

For her efforts, Mrs. Gates received a 25 Year Length-of-Service Award from the National Weather Service.
