The AHRC is an independent non-governmental body which seeks to promote greater awareness and realization of human rights in the Asian region and mobilize Asian and international public opinion to obtain relief and redress for the victims of human rights violations. Its website gives information about the commissions's structure, charter and programs, electronic versions of its publications and appeals, and updates on developments in the region.

This website contains the on-line versions of books previously published in hard copy by the Federal Research Division of the Library of Congress under the Country Studies/Area Handbook Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Army. Because the original intent of the Series' sponsor was to focus primarily on lesser known areas of the world or regions in which U.S. forces might be deployed, the series is not all-inclusive. At present, 101 countries and regions are covered. Notable omissions include Canada, France, the United Kingdom, and other Western nations, as well as a number of African nations. The date of information for each country appears on the title page of each country and at the end of each secion of text.

PanAsia is an initiative of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), a public corporation created by the Parliament of Canada to help researchers and communities in the developing world find solutions to their social, economic, and environmental problems. The Pan Asia Networking (PAN) program pioneers information networking in Asia, linking together people and computer-based information resources on sustainable development from Asian organizations. PanAsia's aim is to promote electronic networking in Asia; the use of Information Communication Technologies (ICT); the development and sharing of information resources; and the research and development of Internet systems, technologies and policies.
