Hurricane Sharky

On 8 October, 2002, approximately 30 students from Sugarloaf Middle School traveled to the Monroe County Government Center to participate in a hurricane planning exercise.  The Monroe County Emergency Operations Center was assembled, and students role-played in the various emergency support functions.

The situation:  A Category IV hurricane named Sharky moves west across the Florida Keys.  The exercise involved many scenarios in preparation, evacuation, disseminating public information, and recovery.
