Public Boat Ramp The Marine Board is committed to helping provide boaters with safe, sufficient, and quality boating facilities.  Most boaters launch at a public boat ramp and will likely need to use boarding floats, a transient tie-up, a parking space, a restroom, a pumpout, or other amenities every time they go boating.  While the Marine Board does not own or operate any of these facilities, we provide funding to the public agencies that do.

Boating Facility Grants can be used by eligible agencies such as cities, counties, ports, park and recreation districts, and state and federal agencies to renovate, replace, and build new public boating facilities.  The Marine Board has awarded over 1,000 grants and invested more than $50 million to improve these facilities statewide.

All of the money for these projects comes from registration fees paid by owners of registered boats as well as taxes boaters pay on the marine fuel consumed in their boats.  The Marine Board also utilizes federal funds available through the Clean Vessel and Boating Infrastructure grant programs.  These funds can be used to provide pumpouts, dump stations, floating restrooms, and transient tie-up facilities.

In addition to grants, the Boating Facilities Program offers technical assistance to grant applicants and recipients for facility design, engineering, and environmental permitting.  The Boating Facilities Program also prepares and maintains a Statewide Boating Facilities Plan and a Boat Waste Disposal Plan for Inland and Coastal Waters to guide funding recommendations to the Marine Board.
