Summer Camping at Highline Lake

An oasis in the desert, Highline Lake is the recreation epicenter for the Grand Valley with two lakes, lush grass, trails and trees.

No matter the season, Highline Lake State Park is a diverse and welcome retreat. Connected to miles of trails and close to communities, the park makes an ideal base camp for exploring the Grand Junction area.  Whether passing through on mountain bikes, or as an end destination, the park welcomes campers, anglers, families and groups.

Two lakes: two worlds. Highline Lake caters to action like jet and water-skiing, while Mack Mesa Lake is quieter, allowing only wakeless boating.  Fishing is available on both lakes.

Birders have plenty to see here. The Audubon Society designated the park an important bird area; thousands migrate through the area every winter.

Park Information
It's Indian Summer at Highline Lake! Visiting the park now is a different experience; the pace is slower and quieter, and there is a feeling of relaxation in the air.  Take time to enjoy the natural beauty and sounds of the great outdoors.  Weekday camping is a get-away-from-it-all treat, and a campfire is perfect to take off the chill, morning or evening.  If you plan to camp on a weekend, reservations are encouraged, as the campground fills up very quickly.  Reservations may be made online by clicking on the Reservations link, or calling 1-800-678-2267.
Why Visit Now

Take advantage of the late summer days at Highline Lake!  The water in Highline Lake is still warm, the swimbeach is still open, and boating is allowed through September 30.  Now is the time to show off all those impressive wakeboard moves you're been practicing all summer!  Or, take to the trails at Highline Lake, biking or hiking.  The blooming sagebrush adds a splash of bright yellow to the view, and the cooler temperatures make the trip around the lake a peaceful respite from the rest of the world. Bring along a picnic, or barbecue at the park, then stay for a famous Highline Lake or Mack Lake sunset - a day to remember!
