Staff Will Discuss Joint CapitalSpace Initiative

The National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC), District of Columbia government, and the National Park Service (NPS) will host a public meeting on CapitalSpace on Tuesday, May 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. Staff will update the public on the multi-agency initiative and present recommendation for parks across the city. Public input is welcome.

Washington, DC is home to an abundance of parks and open spaces, but many face numerous challenges including maintenance, accessibility, and overall quality. To address these challenges and ensure that parks in the nation’s capital reach their full potential, the partnering agencies are working together on the CapitalSpace initiative.

CapitalSpace will coordinate existing park plans, maximize limited resources, and create a stronger park system for the city. During Tuesday’s meeting, the public will have an opportunity to preview recommendations for park sites in the center city, the Fort Circle Parks, and the Lansburgh Park in Southwest Washington. CapitalSpace partners will present recommendations followed by a question and answer session. The public can access additional information on the CapitalSpace initiative by visiting www.capitalspace.gov.
