I am pleased to let you know that I have awarded my Conservation Champion Award to Pacoima Beautiful.  Founded in 1996, Pacoima Beautiful is working to create a better and more livable city.

Since its founding as a beautification organization, Pacoima Beautiful has expanded its work to focus on environmental justice and environmental health, focusing on youth programs that both improve the community and give young people positive avenues for growth, and creating healthy homes to prevent environmentally related health problems such as lead poisoning and asthma caused by mold and moisture.  Overall, Pacoima Beautiful’s vision is “the creation of a healthy, environmentally safe, prosperous and sustainable community.”

As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, I am working every day to create a cleaner and healthier environment.  Communities like Pacoima are an important element in this effort and Pacoima Beautiful is helping to lead the way.  I am pleased to have been able to give this fine organization my Conservation Champion Award.  If you would like to see a photo of the award, please click here.
