Californians have always lead the way in fighting for a clean environment, and they are now leading the way in the fight to slow global warming. However, standing directly in our way is the Environmental Protection Agency, which has denied California’s historic work to combat global warming.
As Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, I recently held a briefing in Los Angeles with top leaders to discuss this matter. I invite you to learn more by clicking here. You will be able to both read and see the important testimony of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Representative Hilda Solis, California Attorney General Edmund G. Brown Jr., California Air Resources Board Chairman Mary Nichols, Fran Pavley of the Natural Resources Defense Council, and Carl Pope, Executive Director of the Sierra Club.
My testimony included this statement: “There is no excuse for the Bush Administration’s decision to block California and eighteen other states from protecting our planet and our people. One way or another, this unjustified, unprecedented, and illegal decision must be overturned.” I am working every day to see that it is overturned.
Thank you for your interest in this matter and for caring deeply about the future of our state and the world.
Sincerely,
![Barbara Boxer, US Senator, California](https://webarchive.library.unt.edu/eot2008/20080921201723im_/http://boxer.senate.gov/i/bbsig_blue.gif)
