During the holiday season, many parents, grandparents and others work to balance finding gifts for children that are educational, enjoyable and economical.  But more than anything, most people hope that their gifts will be safe for the children who use them.

It is shocking but true that dangerous toys are marketed and available for purchase in our nation.  Toys can contain lead paint or other dangerous chemicals, sharp edges that can cut or puncture a child’s skin, small parts that can be swallowed, or other hazardous elements.

I am working in the United States Senate and in the Senate’s Committee on Environment and Public Works, which I chair, to better ensure that every product sold in America is safe, especially the products intended for children.  One important priority has to be better enforcement of our current laws on imports.  In the meantime, I hope you will feel free to use the listing of recalled products.
