Senator Boxer: Preserve Adult Day Health Care
June 27, 2007
Eight states, including California, offer Adult Day Health Care programs. These programs offer day care services with the added benefit of medical and nursing services and medical therapy programs. Adult Day Health Care offers a safe, nurturing and medically appropriate place for people who cannot be alone while their families or loved ones are at work. In the end, they enable people to continue to live at home and they save money by keeping people out of institutional care.
Changes offered by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services may endanger the continuation of Adult Day Health Care programs. I have joined in writing to the Senate’s Finance Committee asking that legislative steps be taken to ensure the continuation of these programs.
Many frail elderly and chronically ill adults are able to continue to live with their families because of the services offered at Adult Day Health Care programs. These and other programs that preserve families and save money should be encouraged instead of being cut. You can count on me to continue to support Adult Day Health Care programs.
Sincerely,
Barbara Boxer
United States Senator
