Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) applauded Senate approval of long-awaited funding to build a new Child Development Center (CDC) at Beale Air Force Base (AFB). The funding was included in emergency spending legislation passed by the Senate on Thursday night.
Senator Boxer said, “The brave men and women who serve our nation at Beale deserve to have a safe place where their children can be cared for. We have fought long and hard to secure the funds for a new Child Development Center, and I am pleased to say that we have finally gotten this done.”
The Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2008 included $17.6 million to build a new CDC at Beale Air Force Base (AFB). The new CDC will replace the 40 year old existing facility which was too small to accommodate eligible children and was also found to contain hazardous materials like asbestos.
The legislation has already passed the House of Representatives and now goes to the President for his signature.
