Deputy Secretary of State Negroponte to Lead U.S. Delegation to ASEAN Meetings

Deputy Secretary of State John D. Negroponte will lead the U.S. delegation to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Forum Ministerial Meeting and the ASEAN Post-Ministerial Conference. Both events will take place in Manila, Philippines, August 1-2, 2007.

Prior to the ASEAN meetings, the Deputy Secretary will hold bilateral consultations with the Government of the Philippines on July 31. Deputy Secretary Negroponte was the United States Ambassador to the Philippines from 1993 to 1996.

The Deputy Secretary also will visit Tokyo, August 2-4, for discussions with the Japanese Government on matters of mutual interest.
