Public and Intergovernmental Affairs
Office of Intergovernmental Affairs
The Deputy Assistant Secretary for Intergovernmental & International Affairs oversees Consumer Affairs, Intergovernmental Affairs, International Affairs, Homeless Veterans Programs, and Veteran Service Organization (VSO) Regional Liaisons.
Consumer Affairs
- Initiates and maintains customer service activities that facilitate interactions between VA, veterans and their families
- Responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints and puts VA's customers in direct contact with the responding VA office
Intergovernmental Affairs
- Serves as the primary contact with the White House, other Federal agencies, and state and local government officials on projects affecting VA initiatives.
- Acts as the central contact point for the State and Local Government Veterans Officials.
International Affairs
- Coordinates with other federal agencies in developing programs and subject matter exchanges for representatives of foreign governments concerning veteran issues.
- Organizes with foreign governments all international commemorative events such as the anniversary of foreign wars, battles, and official recognition by foreign governments of our veterans.
Homeless Veterans Programs
- Coordinates department-wide efforts to assist our Nation's homeless veterans.
- Develops partnerships with other Federal agencies, state and local governments, national and local homeless service providers, veterans service organizations, and American Indian tribal governments to improve internal and external systems of assisting homeless veterans.
