OBJECTIVES |
To acquaint local sworn law enforcement officials with the functions of the Secret Service, and the techniques of protecting dignitaries; to assist criminal investigators by training them in the basic examination of questioned documents, and brief law enforcement officials and money handlers in the techniques used in detecting counterfeit documents and money. |

USES AND USE RESTRICTIONS |
The Questioned Document Course is restricted to sworn law enforcment officers. Applicants are accepted in limited numbers upon the request of their departmental heads for training in the Secret Service Questioned Document Course. The training, while geared primarily to the Secret Service Special Agent, will provide introductory training in the fundamentals of document analysis with emphasis on handwriting examination and comparison. The Protective Operations Briefing is also restricted to sworn law enforcment officers and is provided for those officers who have the regular responsibility of protecting dignitaries which includes post assignments, use of follow-up vehicles, motorcade techniques, and advanced security arrangements. The Secret Service will provide the police officials with information which will assist them in helping the Secret Service carry out its protective responsibilities. (Upon request, regional Secret Service offices will brief bank tellers, department store cashiers, and other money handlers in the techniques of detecting counterfeit currency.) |
Applicant Eligibility |
For training in Questioned Document Course and/or Protective Operations Briefing, applicant must be a sworn member of a law enforcement agency. |

Application Procedure |
Contact the appropriate resident Secret Service office or the regional field office serving your jurisidction, to apply for admission to Questioned Document Course and the Protective Operations Briefing. Also, contact the resident Secret Service office or the regional office for information concerning requests for lecture presentations to groups on the detection of counterfeit money.
