The data services provided by the Transportation Data Section (TDS) are critical for successfully managing Oregon's transportation system. Data section products and services are provided to local, regional, state and national government agencies and the private sector. Data is used for transportation development, project delivery, design, construction, operations, maintenance, funding apportionment and regulatory issues. It is essential to transportation decision makers that data and products be provided in the most accurate, economical manner possible.
Customer expectation drives the demand for more custom TDS products and shorter production timelines for custom and standard products. To meet this demand, the Section utilizes technology and supports employees in developing innovative business processes to improve product delivery. Technologies allow linking of databases and sharing of data, which provides more accurate information shorter update cycles, and improved data access. GIS (Geographic Information System) continues to be an important tool, making it possible to integrate spatial data assisting in the decision process.
