Outreach Event

On October 8 and 9, 2008, officials from the U.S. Department of Labor will conduct a traveling resource center at the Pittsburg Memorial Auditorium in Pittsburg, Kansas. The Department’s Traveling Resource Center Staff will assist claimants and provide information about a new class of former employees at the Spencer Chemical Company/Jayhawk Works near Pittsburg, Kansas, recently added to the Act’s Special Exposure Cohort. Representatives will also be available to assist individuals with filing claims under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act.

Outreach Event

On October 21, 2008, officials from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) will conduct a town hall meeting at the Two Rivers Convention Center in Grand Junction, Colorado. Representatives will explain how certain uranium miners, uranium millers, and ore transporters may qualify for federal compensation and medical benefits under Parts B and E of the EEOICPA. Representatives from the Department of Justice (DOJ) will also be in attendance to provide information on the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA).

Part E of the EEOICPA provides federal compensation and medical benefits to RECA Section 5 uranium workers who developed an illness as a result of exposure to toxic substances while working at a RECA Section 5 uranium mine, uranium mill, or ore buying station at any time during the period January 1, 1942 through December 31, 1971. Survivors of uranium workers are also potentially eligible for benefits. An award under Section 5 of RECA is not required for consideration under Part E of the EEOICPA.

DOL’s Traveling Resource Center personnel will also be available at the town hall meeting to assist individuals interested in filing compensation claims.
