Genetic Services

Genetic services are health care services delivered by professionals with special expertise in genetics. Genetic service providers include genetic counselors, medical geneticists (genetic doctors), genetic nurse specialists, and genetic laboratory professionals.

Genetic service providers use information, such as family history, age, and in some cases, laboratory test results, to help determine an individual's risk of having or passing on a genetic condition to an offspring. Genetic service providers can help individuals and families to understand their options and to make informed health and reproductive decisions.
