King County Board of Health meeting on July 14, 2006

KING COUNTY, WASHINGTON - The King County Board of Health will hold its next meeting on Friday, July 14, 2006, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This session, originally scheduled for July 21, is a joint meeting of the King County Board of Health and the King County Council Law, Justice and Human Services Committee.

The meeting will be held at:

9. Public Health Operational Master Plan (PHOMP) Update

Toni Rezab, Project Manager, PHOMP and Carrie S. Cihak, County Council staff, will provide a briefing on the July 6, 2006 PHOMP Steering Committee Meeting and the Law, Justice, and Human Services Staff Report.

Tom Milne from Milne & Associates, will provide an overview of the findings included in the Funding Issue Paper. This report was submitted by Milne & Associates as background information for the PHOMP Phase I Policy Framework.

10. Public Health – Seattle & King County 2006 Adopted Budget Overview

Kathy Uhlorn, Board of Health Administrator and Greg Kipp, Chief Administrative Officer, will provide an overview of Public Health’s 2006 Adopted Budget by Lines of Business. The Department’s Lines of Business are:

  • Population and Environmental Health Services
  • Emergency Medical Services
  • Targeted Community Health Services
  • Clinical Health Services/Primary Care Assurances
  • Management and Business Practice
11. The City of Seattle Healthy Communities Initiative

Jerry DeGrieck, City of Seattle Public Health Policy Manager, will provide the Board with an overview of Seattle's Healthy Communities Initiative. The City of Seattle has adopted a Policy Guide to broadly guide its public health efforts and investments. The briefing will cover the process the City used in developing the Policy Guide, the role that the City has in improving the health of its residents and neighborhoods, and how the City's role complements Public Health-Seattle & King County. Seattle City Councilmember and Board of Health member Tom Rasmussen will provide opening remarks.

Note: The King County Board of Health will be holding a retreat on Tuesday, July 25, 2006, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 44th floor, Wells Fargo Center, Seattle. The focus of the retreat will be board member roles and the policy framework for the Public Health Operational Master Plan.

The King County Board of Health sets county-wide public health policy, enacts and enforces local public health regulations, and carries out other duties of local boards of health specified in state law. These duties include enforcing state public health statutes, preventing and controlling the spread of infectious disease, abating nuisances, and establishing fee schedules for licenses, permits and other services.
