Free educational workshop for owners of on-site septic systems

KING COUNTY, WA - Public Health - Seattle & King County has scheduled two free workshops titled, "Septic Systems: A Homeowners Guide," to help homeowners learn about on-site septic systems and improve the effectiveness and longevity of these systems.

The workshops will focus on:

  • how on-site septic systems function
  • the causes of on-site septic system failures
  • ways to keep a systems operating correctly and avoid costly and unnecessary failures
  • research-based answers to frequently asked questions

The two free sessions will be held:

Saturday, April 21
noon to 4:00 p.m.
Highline School District Admin Bldg.
15675 Ambaum Blvd. SW
Burien, WA

Saturday, May 12
noon to 4:00 p.m.
Maple Valley Firehall
22225 SE 231st
Maple Valley, WA

To reserve seating and educational materials, pre-register by calling 206-296-3989 or contacting burleigh@wsu.edu. Real estate professionals may apply for four clock-hour credits by paying a $20 fee at the workshop.

The last 90 minutes of each workshop are optional and will include a discussion on pressure distribution and alternative systems such as mounds, sand filters, and aerobic treatment units, plus the advantages, applications and maintenance requirements of these systems.

"Septic Systems: A Homeowners Guide" is presented by Washington State University Cooperative Extension in partnership with Public Health - Seattle & King County.

The program is produced through funding from the Public Involvement and Education Project, financed by proceeds from the Washington State Water Quality Account and administered by the Puget Sound Water Quality Action Team.
