Pet licenses will be sold at food worker training in North Bend
Wednesday, November 8, 2000

KING COUNTY, WA - King County pet licenses will be available for purchase before and during the training and testing of food workers on November 16 at 2 p.m. and again at 5 p.m. at the Mount Si Senior Center in North Bend.

In an innovative collaboration, King County Pet Licensing is working with Public Health - Seattle & King County to add this service for the convenience of food workers and the general public. Pet licenses will be available for purchase starting ½ hour before each of the two training sessions on Nov. 16. The public is also welcome to come in and obtain licenses for their dogs and cats during this time.

Those successfully completing this training and passing the required test will receive a Food Worker Card, which is a permit to work with food being served to the public. (NOTE: the pet license service is not a part of the food worker test, but these two different County services are being offered together as a convenient outreach and service to the public.)

The Mt. Si Senior Center is located at 411 Main Avenue in North Bend. For directions, call (425) 888-3434.

You and your pet both benefit from a pet license:

  • You will be notified if your pet gets lost. Or even a neighbor who finds your pet can call you through owner information on the Found Pet Information Line, 296-PETS.

  • Your pet gets a Free Ride Home the first time they are found. County staff will attempt to drive your pet home to you, skipping a trip to the animal shelter.

  • Your pet gets a Longer Care Period. When lost, your licensed pet will be cared for at the county Animal Shelter for a longer time.

  • Vacation Pet Alert. When you leave home on vacation, just let King County know who is caring for your pet, or where you can be reached, if your pet should get lost.

  • License fees help support beneficial animal services, including reuniting lost pets with their families, adoption of homeless pets, investigation of animal neglect or cruelty, spay/neuter programs to reduce pet over-population, and community education services.

All dogs and cats must be licensed in all unincorporated King County and the following cities: Algona, Auburn, Beaux Arts, Bellevue, Black Diamond, Bothell, Burien, Carnation, Clyde Hill, Covington, Duvall, Enumclaw, Federal Way, Issaquah, Kenmore, Kent, Kirkland, Lake Forest Park, Maple Valley, Mercer Island, Newcastle, North Bend, Pacific, Redmond, Sammamish, SeaTac, Shoreline, Snoqualmie, Tukwila, Woodinville and Yarrow Point. (Mercer Island only requires dog licenses.) Cities handling their own pet licenses are: Seattle, Renton, Des Moines, Normandy Park, Hunts Point and Medina.

The price of a license for a spayed or neutered dog or cat is only $15 per year, licenses for unaltered pets are $55 each, which includes a $25 spay/neuter voucher. A juvenile license for pets under six months of age is $5, and lasts for 6 months. Senior citizens can obtain a license valid for the lifetime of the pet; the cost to license an altered dog is $20, for an altered cat at $12.

For information about pet licenses, please call (206) 296-2712, visit the Pet Licensing website at www.metrokc.gov/pets, or e-mail pets@metrokc.gov.
