FEMA Cooperates with Law Enforcement

FEMA continues to work cooperatively with the New Orleans Police Department and other regional law enforcement agencies. The agency has aggressively searched to find ways that it can provide critical information to state and local law enforcement without violating the fundamental privacy rights of disaster victims. While we are prohibited from supplying a blanket list of names of residents of FEMA-established mobile home parks, we can assist if law enforcement provides specific names of persons for whom they are searching. Our relationship with law enforcement agencies in New Orleans has been and will continue to be supportive.

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident, initiates mitigation activities and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA works closely with state and local emergency managers, law enforcement personnel, firefighters and other first responders. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
